Complete Diaper Guide
Sizes, how many changes, rash prevention, and everything no one told you.
Your baby will use between 2,500 and 3,000 diapers in their first year. Choosing the right size and changing on time prevents diaper rash, which is more common than you think.
Sizes by weight
NB (up to 11 lbs)
First weeks. Many babies skip this if born over 7.7 lbs.
S / Size 1 (6-13 lbs)
First month. Some models have a wetness indicator strip.
M / Size 2 (8-18 lbs)
Approximately 1-4 months. The most used size in early months.
L / Size 3 (16-28 lbs)
4-9 months. Change up if there are red marks on thighs or frequent leaks.
Daily diaper changes
Newborn
10-12 times/day
1-3 months
8-10 times/day
3-6 months
6-8 times/day
6-12 months
5-6 times/day
Rash prevention
Change as soon as wet or soiled — ammonia irritates the skin
"Diaper-free time" 10-15 min daily — air heals the skin
Barrier cream with zinc or petrolatum at every change (preventive)
Wipe front to back for girls
If there's irritation: damp cloth instead of wipes (fewer chemicals)
